Rastamouse

Well, I haven't done a blog about kids TV for a while... and since M is happily playing with Lego on his own and H is watching the rugby, it's a good time for it!
So yeah, this is Rastamouse. They all speak like people do in Jamaica, and dress like them and act like them but there's just no drugs. That's like the only difference!
Rastamouse and his Easy Crew solve crimes that are relatively severe considering it's a kids show. There's theft and plagiarism and vandalism. Of course the bad guy is always sorry in the end and gets a chance to make it all up, but it's still quite different from for example Busytown which is another mystery-solving type of show where they look for someones missing shoe or what happened to the butter sculpture (it melted).
It's a good show, although the accents get a bit old. M doesn't looove it or anything, I think some of it doesn't make much sense to him nor interest him overly much.
And I can't help to wonder... who the heck makes this stuff up? Rastafarian mice?

Yo Gabba Gabba

This is a wonderful kids TV show!
It is created by people who I would guess is somewhere around my age and perhaps a handful of years younger; it is very hip and trendy and cool (and I mean that in the best possible way!).
DJ Lance Rock and his 5 little toys who come alive when he sprinkles a little bit of "yo gabba gabba glittery dust" do a lot of dancing and singing, all to very tolerable music even to adults. Lots of famous people have guest starred on the show; from Elijah Wood to Jack Black to the Ting-Tings and Weird Al and plenty more.
It's very educational. The kids will learn about eating their veggies and not pushing and helping each other and so on and so on; there's not a moment where there isn't something being told. It's never annoying though because it's done so well; although I must say the yellow robot is a little bit of a know-it-all.
Anyways! Here's my totally favourite moment; apparently the original banana-song is about skinheads or something (?) but the lyrics have been slightly re-written for the TV show. Enjoy!

Peppa Pig

Peppa Pig is VERY different from Flap-Jack. Flap-Jack is absurd and sick and crazy and somehow not very child-friendly, whilst Peppa Pig is very cute and sweet and funny. It still brings lots of laughs for the adults too, because it mocks us parents a little bit sometime in a very nice and funny way.
Peppa Pig is all about what it's like to visit the dentist, or going for a trip to the museum, or a holiday to the beach and stuff like that. Daddy Pig might be sick with a cough or there might be a power outage so they have to play in the dark or it's really windy at the park.
Somehow, in the end, they always end of jumping in muddy puddles. Both the kids and the parents. Perhaps because pigs like mud? Is that it?
This is probably one of M's favourites, and I like it too. It's nice to watch and you can't help to laugh or smile at it at times.

The Misadventures of Flap-Jack

I watch a lot of kids TV, obviously. And some of it is crap, some of it is great, some just plain weird and then there is the awesome stuff too. Well, I figured I'd write a little bit about the different shows M and I watch the most.
Flap-Jack is a wonderful place to start. Flap-Jack is a little orphan boy who has somehow been picked up by this crazy pirate captain who doesn't really care much for him and the two of them live inside the mouth of a great female whale. The whale is like a maternal figure to Flap-Jack; she loves the little lost sailor boy and constantly disagrees with the pirate captain on how to bring him up and deal with situations.
There are a lot of extremely weird and wonderful characters amongst the sailors and other people at the docks. Most of them are plain sick in the head and dangerous, but Flap-Jack seems to skip around unharmed through the insanity never losing his innocence or cheerfulness. Then there's Candy Island, which is where they want to go, but never end up doing.
