Yesterday I took the kiddies to Hungry Jacks after picking M up from school. I told him it was as a special treat because he was awarded Tall Tree at school (for good behaviour) but really it was planned beforehand lol.
After some awful food (I can't stand Hungry Jacks, it's disgusting) the kids had a play in their play area which was really the main reason we went there. We were there for about an hour all up, and it made for a much more relaxed and fun afternoon when we got home.

Dress Up As Book Character Day
Finally the day had come! M has been looking forward to this all year, because he wanted to go as Harry Potter.
So with an inside out grey shirt and his black cords, his Gryffindor cape and Harry glasses and the wand Auntie L gave him, some black hair spray and make-up pen to make the scar... he was all done, and how stoked he was!!!
Here he is with his very good friend SH who was Barbie.
Then Little J and I went to parade to watch them all, almost all the kids had dressed up. There were a couple more Harrys, but lots of Thing 1 and Thing 2, and pirates and princesses and a Dalek and heaps and heaps more. Lots of fun.
Not everyone got dressed up, a few kids in M's class didn't. But I am so happy we made all that effort, he loved it and it was such good fun.

Tales of Beedle the Bard
Read this short complication of fairy tales from the world of Harry Potter on the train earlier in the week. It comes with "notes" from Professor Dumbledore interpreting the stories.
Obviously, being quite familiar with the Harry Potter story, I knew all about the three brothers, which is definitely the strongest out of these short tales.
Generally, they are clever and fit very well into the world. Not an exciting read for myself perhaps, but for M definitely.
M is becoming quite the enthusiastic reader. He loves the Zac Power books (about a ten year old boy who is a special agent) and I have to say that he is a fluent reader now. He never fails to find a word, I am so proud of him.
Now if we could just get his hand writing as good, ha. He is a great speller, but it all looks awful!

Friendship
During last week M's best friend AA hurt his hand at school. Whilst AA was a little upset, he didn't cry. But M cried, lots, because his best friend was hurt. Such a beautiful, gentle soul my little man is. Sometimes he can be so difficult and stubborn and rude, but it's all just because he's only 6 years old. I am certain my M is going to grow up to be a very fine man.
This is a letter M wrote for AA, to make him feel better. He also drew a picture of them too as superheroes.

Guide Dogs Fund Raiser
At school this week M is learning about fundraising and community projects and stuff like that. On Friday they've got a Guide Dog coming to school to visit, and the children will be handing over some monies that they have raised for the Guide Dog Association.
And how is this money raised you might ask? Well, with mummies and daddies baking dog-themed biscuits and cupcakes for selling at the tuckshop. So today was my designated day (lots of parents are doing them, and we all got days allocated so they would have enough on each day) and I made these.
Now, the white ones are obviously supposed to be Dalmatians but the dark chocolate kind of hardened as soon as it touched the already cool white chocolate so couldn't shape them into neat dots but hey, whatever right?
So yeah, we're all baking and then we have to give the kids money to buy the very things we've baked too. Gave M $3 yesterday not knowing how much they were charging for the baked goods. Well, $3 got him one cupcake and two biscuits so he ended up not eating any of his lunch. Therefore today he only got $1. Ha ha ha!

Back into it
Hooray for M who turns 6 today!
We got up really early to sing and for him to open his pressies. He got some Ninjago (from P&E) and a ninja suit and weapons and some dive streamers for the pool from us. Then he said hello to P&E on the webcam and to Popa and Nana as well.
Grandma showed up at 8am, and she got him some cool stuff too. Then we were off to first day of school for the year, and my little boy is now in Year 1! Wowsa, how did that happen?
After dropping off Little J at kindy as well, H and I decided to enjoy our day of peace at Chermside with coffee and sushi and shopping. Now he's having a nap and I'm relaxing.
Tonight is all about M of course, being his birthday and all, so I am making Tuna Rice Bake and we might play some computer games and even might go for a dip at the pool? We'll see, we'll see.

First week of holidays
Yet, we have managed quite well. M has been very well behaved, and very understanding. So what have we done so far?
On Friday after work we went to a book workshop at the library, two of M's school friends were there too. A writer/illustrator held a wonderful session of story telling and drawing, and it was all free. So good.
Saturday was quiet (I was sick and stuff) and on Sunday we had a playdate with A&E which was great. They just came here for a play.
On Monday I took the kids to an exhibition at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum called "Games Puzzles Illusions" where M tried out heaps of different games (see picture!)
On Tuesday we went to the Chipmunk stage show at Toombul shops with Candice and her kids. It was lame but the kids liked it, and they also liked playing in the McDs playground whilst we chatted for ages. I get along really well with Candice; she's such an interesting person.
On Wednesday we went to the Chipmunk Play Centre (yes I know, lots of Chipmunks!) with EF and AA and ET from school!
On Thursday we did Ten Pin Bowling with A&E, the best fun ever!
Today we went to North Lakes to get Uncle G's birthday present and then we had dinner at Story Bridge Hotel tonight.
Gosh, that's why I haven't blogged much! It's been too busy!!!!!!!!
Next week is going to be busy too...

ALMOST halfway thru prep
Today is M's last day before school holidays. We are now halfway through prep year, isn't that crazy?
So I'm looking forward to two weeks of entertaining two kids singlehandedly (H has to work EVERY day, they're so busy)...
Well, there are a handful of free activities around, most of them local on the northside, so I will take them to those. Then next Wednesday we're having a big school friend catch up at the parks so he'll run off lots of energy there, should be great.
Then we're catching up in the city with SBLL and Medieval Festival with Uncle P and Auntie L and A&E of course.
So hopefully we will not drive each other crazy... too much.

Weekend
Today us girls are going to a baby shower for someone I work with, that should be fun. The boys are probably going to Movieworld. Originally I was going to bring both kids but M has been a bit difficult last few days and I think he needs some quality daddy-time. H is going to work Saturdays and Sundays a lot in the next few months and today might be his last day off work for a while so I'm happy they're having a boys-day-out.
Well, two major things have happened in the last few days. First, on Friday Little J had her 6 month injections. She screamed and cried, and was a sooky and clingy little baby all that day and we had to give her Panadol during the night but by Saturday she was all her happy self again. Thank goodness that's over; she should now be pretty much protected against whooping cough...
Second thing to have happened is M's Report Card from his teachers. His score were great and all the comments wonderful. We are so very proud of him.
Yesterday M went to the dentist again (to see WW at Highgate Hill) and he doesn't need any more fillings at the moment, PHEW. But we got to keep flossing!
Picture is of M with his rockclimbing certificate :-)

A bit quiet
I haven't been blogging much, sorry.
Little J hasn't been sleeping too wonderfully and that saps a lot of my energy, especially the part of my energy that goes into things such as blogging. Once I've done all the stuff I have to do, there's not much left in me.
Oh well, such is motherhood and she won't be a baby forever. Soon enough she will be as tricky to get out of bed as her brother! Ha.
Obviously lots of things have happened in the past almost two weeks. H was away for a few days, and then he's worked quite a bit extra. My car is being annoying again. I bought beautiful earrings online and I can't wait to show you them on here! Uncle G has moved back to Brisbane, woo hoo. We are seeing him on Sunday.
But the best thing that has happened is the Parent/Teacher Interview for M. I was a little nervous about it, being first time. And how is he doing? He is doing amazingly well. His teacher said his results are outstanding and that whilst most kids in his class are Level 2 readers, he is about to get moved up to Level 5. I am so proud of my little man :-)

School is back tomorrow
I can't wait!
This has been an exhausting two weeks; M has been expecting mummy to entertain him constantly and it's been non-stop! Therefore I have been too tired to blog much...
Well, Wednesday at GoMA with SBLL (and A!) was busy but great. I had dramas driving there but hey, we survived! Ha.
Thursday was M's dental appointment which went well. He now knows and fears "Mr Bumpy", which hopefully will help. He also had swim that afternoon and the teacher says he's doing great.
Friday is a bit of a blur... sorry... but yesterday on Saturday I had my hair appointment and then we relaxed at home. Today is LL's 2nd birthday party so that'll be great fun!
And tomorrow...
... well, once M is at school I'm going to take Little J to the shops for a relaxing stroll and coffee and stuff. Yay!
Also, starting to get excited about L&J's wedding next weekend!!!!!!!

Trees and stuff
It was wonderful, H helped M to plant a tree to symbolise M's beginning school life. The weather stayed beautiful and it wasn't crowded (there wasn't that many families there, bit of a shame I think) and yeah... great, just great. The school has a huge area of forest out the back, quite amazing for a suburban area. Both H and I feel so lucky M is at this school.
That's all we did today, apart from some laundry and puzzles and random at home things. Tomorrow is Monday and we start the last week of Term 1. Yay! Then M got two weeks off. On Tuesday H is travelling to NSW and won't be back until Friday. That'll suck. Meh.

Student of the Week
This week the theme was "Finding Humour" and guess who won the preppie award? My little M! He got to go up and receive the award from the principal and shake his hand in front of the whole school and they applauded him and stuff. He was so proud and H and I are equally proud.
People always tell us M is a real larrikin, he's always cracking jokes and being a clown and I guess that's what made him the winner this week.
Very exciting stuff indeed...

School!!!
He was totally relaxed about it all, and once we got there he started playing with his new classmates straight away and not even looking our way. When the teachers opened he was the first one in and by the time we managed to get inside he was already sitting at a table drawing and chatting to another little boy (see picture!)
We all said bye-bye when we left, and he didn't care about us leaving one bit. So, that feels pretty good I think!
Walking back to the car H and I realised this was the first day out of 17 years of having kids at school and that by the time little J finishes year 12 we'll both be pushing 50. FARK! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Such a crazy thought.

Kindy Grads
Today was Kindy Graduation. They gave the kiddies little cardboard graduation hats and had a ceremony and it was really cute. The centre manager cried, and I did too a little bit. Beautiful.
Also picked up M's school hat with initials embroidered into the back of it from the sewing place; very nicely done and very much worth the $5.50. Went to school to buy more uniforms and they had none! So ordered two in for M, lucky I already got one before Christmas so he can wear that on Monday.
Because yes.... my little man is starting school on Monday. Crazy!
